Sermon by The Rev. Dr. Richard Bernier
In John 11, Jesus weeps for his friend Lazarus. Does that mean he lost hope? Hope can feel like cheap grace or empty consolation, self-delusion or vapid optimism. That kind of hope evaporates easily in moments of bereavement, struggle, and discouragement. How do we continue to live with hope when the sun goes dark for us?
First Lesson: Ezekiel 37: 1-14
Second Lesson: John 11: 1-44

In the midst of our hectic lives, many people long for the peace and refreshment that only God can give. Our Taizé Service offers the chance to gather quietly in meditative common prayer using the beautiful and simple songs of the Taizé community in France. Serene and uplifting, the music of Taizé helps us to deepen our sense of prayer and of God’s presence. On Wednesday, May 20th, at 6:00 p.m., all are welcome to this quiet and simple service.
