Sermon by The Rev. Dr. Grace Ji-Sun Kim, “Give to God what is God’s”
We often read Matthew 22:15–21 as a passage about paying taxes. But if we look deeper, this story is not primarily about money or politics; it is about who we are and our belongingness. When Jesus asks whose image is on the coin, he points to a deeper truth: the coin bears Caesar’s image, but we bear God’s image. We are created in the divine likeness and we are beloved, sacred, and filled with worth beyond measure.
