Lunch and Learn: South Africa Justice and Joy

Join us on Sunday, September 14th, for a Lunch and Learn with Bob Faris about South Africa. Thirty years after the end of apartheid, the country continues to seek to live out the promise of a democratic and non-racial society, what Archbishop Desmond Tutu famously called the Rainbow Nation.

Southern Africa has been a part of Bob’s life for over thirty-five years, first teaching in an ecumenical seminary in neighbouring Mozambique between 1989 and 1994 and then working on his PhD at the University of Cape Town in the early 2000’s. More recently, he has returned to South Africa as a John DeGruchy Legacy Fellow, working with the Volmoed Community as it seeks to renew itself in its ministry of justice and reconciliation begun forty years ago. Bob will reflect on the beauty and vibrancy of South Africa as well as some of the challenges that it faces, particularly in the life of the Church.

Bob will also have information about a two week tour he is leading in March 2026 sponsored by The Presbyterian Church in Canada in collaboration with the Volmoed Community. Everyone is welcome.
