Event Details

The Indigenous Connections Committee and the Quebec Indigenous Partnership invite you to join us on Thursday, June 4th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Kildonan Hall for The Blanket Exercise.

The Kairos Blanket Exercise was created in response to the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples’ call for reconciliation through education and understanding. It is a unique participatory Canadian history lesson that fosters truth, understanding and respect. Led by Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers, it creates opportunity for reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, by addressing Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

This Blanket Exercise will be led by Tom Raterhokwats Dearhouse and Rev. Lisa Byer-de-Wever. Tom is a (Mohawk/Ojibway) helper, counselor, facilitator, land based teacher, pipe carrier, elder, and advocate and the Shakotisnien:nens Traditional Support Worker at Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services. Rev. Byer de-Wever (West Indian and Indigenous) is the Minister of Merging Waters United Church, Pierrefonds and the former Executive Director of Saint Columba House. We will finish with refreshments and a sharing circle.
